What we do

Midwives @ the Edges exists to strengthen the hands that welcome life into the world — especially in places where care is scarce, systems are strained, and distance can mean the difference between life and loss.

Where we work

The edges, mapped.

Thirty priority countries where maternal and newborn mortality are highest — and 60 additional countries under active consideration.

How we work

Six ways we strengthen midwifery at the edges

1

The midwife network

Skilled, compassionate practitioners rooted in their own communities. Quarterly gatherings, peer review, and ongoing continuing education keep the network strong. Join the network →

2

Equipping trainers

From within the network, we identify and equip the trainers who extend knowledge and skill to others — multiplying the work without losing the relational core.

3

Partnering with communities

Our fieldwork begins with invitation. When a community asks for support, we respond as partners — listening first, then collaborating to strengthen what already exists.

Training at every level

Healthcare providers, community health workers, and traditional birth attendants — equipped with evidence-based maternal and newborn care, wherever skill meets need. See upcoming trainings →

Midwife Mobile Stats App

A free iOS & Android app that lets midwives log every birth they attend — a digital birth record in the palm of your hand. Get the app →

Building the evidence base

We design, implement, and report on midwifery-related studies — strengthening what we know about birth at the edges and what works to make it safer.

Midwives @ the Edges is, at its core, a movement of accompaniment — standing with those who stand at the very beginning of life, and helping ensure that no one is left at the margins of care.

Voices from the network

There is no shame in teaching people about health.
We love our people and we want them to understand and experience this shalom health.
This is the truth, and I want to know more and understand more.
We will teach others what we have learned!
When will you be back?
