Where every mother matters, and every midwife is sustained.

Midwives @ the Edges is a global network of frontline midwifery workers, organizations, and like-minded individuals who collaborate to support, teach, and encourage each other, build the evidence base and share best practices, and recruit and train up others in the art and science of midwifery.

From the field · Myanmar

She climbs mountains to serve.

A community midwife in Myanmar climbs mountains to reach the women she serves. Thanks to Midwives @ the Edges, she now carries a non-pneumatic anti-shock garment — so when a mother hemorrhages, she can stabilize her, transport her to a hospital, and save her life.

She is one of 150 midwives and birth workers in our network. In 2026, we're scaling the anti-shock garment program and continuing to equip midwives serving in the places other systems cannot reach.

How we work

Networking. Catalyzing. Equipping.

Three verbs. One sustained effort to make sure skilled midwifery care reaches the places the system doesn't.

N

Networking

We connect birth workers — expat and local — to agencies, schools, and each other. Quarterly network calls, peer review groups, and introductions that turn isolated midwives into a community. Join the network →

C

Catalyzing

We catalyze change by equipping and supporting skilled midwives to strengthen care where it's needed most — across conflict-affected regions, nomadic communities, rainforest villages, and maternity care deserts.

E

Equipping

We equip local health systems by training more skilled midwives and honoring traditional birth attendants with life-saving skills and hands-on mentorship.

Together, in 2026

Sustain a midwife. Sustain a community.

From conflict-affected Myanmar and Afghanistan, to nomadic tribes in Pakistan, traditional midwives in the Amazon, Syrian refugees in Lebanon, remote villages in India, and underserved maternity care deserts in the US — M@tE responds to urgent, locally identified needs with humility, skill, and partnership. Whether you're a midwife, a donor, or an in-country partner, your support makes it possible.
