Privacy Policy
You are the only person who will have access to your complete data. Think of it as your birth log, but in the palm of your hand and available anywhere. If you are a user of the Midwife Mobile Stats – M@tE app, please take the time to review the following privacy policy.
Effective Date: January 4, 2025
By using this app, you (the “Midwife”) consent to the collection, storage, and use of data as outlined in this Privacy Policy. Please read this policy carefully before using the app.
1. Purpose of the App
This app is designed to provide midwives with a simple and efficient way to log the births they attend. It also provides links to and pdf files of documents relevant to midwifery. The data collected will primarily be used to help midwives track their professional activities and maintain a record of the births they attend.
While the main purpose of the app is to help midwives log birth information, the data may be used in the future for research purposes, such as to analyze trends in birth outcomes or to improve healthcare services in a particular region.
2. Data We Collect
The app collects the following types of anonymized data related to the births you log:
- Birth details (e.g., birth outcomes, medical interventions)
- General demographic information (e.g., region, “type” of birth (home, hospital, etc.))
The app does not collect any personally identifiable information about the midwife, the mothers, or the babies. Specifically, no names, or location details that could identify individual births are stored. The midwife is the only person who will see the birth day, month, and year information.
3. Anonymization and Privacy
To protect your privacy:
- All data collected will be anonymized (i.e., de-identified) to ensure that it cannot be traced back to you or any specific birth.
- The data will be aggregated. If used for research purposes, it will be anonymized and aggregated to ensure privacy.
4. Use of Data for Research
Although the app’s primary purpose is to assist midwives with logging births, there is a chance that the data may be used for research purposes to build the evidence base, such as for:
- Research on trends in maternal and infant health
- Analysis to improve healthcare services
- Collaboration with academic or healthcare research institutions
Any data used for research will always be aggregated and anonymized to ensure it cannot be traced back to you, the mothers, or the babies involved.
5. Data Security and Storage
Your data will be stored securely using Microsoft Azure and encrypted to protect it from unauthorized access. Only authorized personnel involved in the app’s development and management will have access to the aggregated data.
While we take reasonable steps to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security against all risks, such as potential breaches.
6. Voluntary Participation and Right to Withdraw
Participation in using this app is voluntary. By using the app, you agree to the collection and use of data as described above. You may withdraw your consent at any time without any penalty or consequence.
If you wish to withdraw your consent or delete your data, please contact us at admin@midwives-at-the-edges.org / (843) 481-5034. Upon request, any data you entered will be deleted.
7. Compliance with Data Protection Laws
This app complies with applicable data protection laws, including:
- General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (for users in the EU)
- Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) (for users in the U.S.)
- Data Protection Act and Personal Information Protection (for users in other regions)
You have the right to access, correct, and delete your data in accordance with these laws.
8. Data Sharing and Public Access
- For research purposes: Data may be shared with authorized research collaborators or institutions in an aggregated and anonymized form. This data will not contain personal identifiers or be traceable to any specific individual or birth.
- No personal information is shared: No personally identifiable information, such as names or specific birthdates, will ever be shared or published.
Some research findings may be made publicly available in the future, but these will always be in an anonymized and aggregated format that ensures privacy.
